Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice

Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.

Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.

The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the fence.

Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.

The veteran ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.

Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
